Even though roulette is viewed as a game of luck, specific patterns indicate the frequency of some roulette colours compared to others.

A roulette wheel is distinguishable by the equal amount of red and green coloured fields, as well as one, or two, green fields. Both red and black areas equally have 18 spots each. In French and European roulette, there is only a single green spot, while in American roulette, there are two green spots representing 0 and 00.

Both red and black are equally good roulette colours to bet on, since they have 50/50 odds. While roulette is a game of luck, and there’s no way of telling where the ball might land, it doesn’t hurt to know the odds of the game’s black, red, and green fields.

Below we discuss the odds and tips regarding roulette colours:

Roulette Colours and Betting Odds

When placing bets in roulette, it is suggested that players stick to the less risky bets. The most common wagers are outside bets. These bets carry a 1-to-1 payout. Red and black bets cover all the numbers on the table besides zero. As there is considerable coverage of numbers, the odds of these bets are less than when placing a single number bet. A straight-up bet pays 35 to 1, while a red or black bet pays 1 to 1.

How Often Do Roulette Colours Come Up?

The red or black colour bets have an equal probability of coming up. Let’s look at the red, for example. There are 18 red places present on an American roulette wheel that include 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 12, 14, 16, 18, 21, 23, 25, 27, 30, 32, 34, and 36. This means that red fills 47.4 percent of the wheel’s slots. On average, if you decide to bet red on every spin, your probability of winning would be 47.4 percent of the time. If you bet on red every time with 50 outcomes per hour, you’re expected to win on 23.7 spins.

European roulette contains the same number of red spaces as American roulette but one fewer space overall. The odds on even money red bets subsequently shift. Because red slots account for 48.6 percent of the table, red bets are expected to win 24.3 times per hour while losing 25.7 times.

Final Thoughts

If you are playing roulette for fun, then there is no difference whether you place a red or black bet. Remember, there’s no way of knowing where the ball will ultimately land, so you have a good chance of striking it rich with either of the primary roulette colours.
