Following the recent announcement of the resumption of training at the Woodbine Mohawk Park in Ontario, the horseracing venue released the schedule and slots for its much-awaited Mohawk Million race.
With Mohawk Million traditionally attracting a great deal of interest from the horse people and spectators, it is no surprise that all the slots for the even have already been purchased. On 4 March, Woodbine Entertainment announced all the slot owners’ names for the race that will be featuring two-year-old trotters.
All Slots Already Taken
Each of the slots cost CA$100,000, with nine being up for grabs. Despite the current financial difficulties caused by the ongoing pandemic, all slots were snatched in record time. The final tenth slot will be awarded to the William Wellwood Memorial race winner, taking place on 11 September 2021.
The slot owners for the multi-million event card are Crawford Farms, Brad Grant, EquineX, Gino Toscani, Determination, and Steve Heimbecker. Furthermore, EquineX, Determination and Gino Toscani currently hold two slots each. These slots can be sold, traded, or even leased by the owners before the race.
As it stands, horse owners are not required to declare their two-year-old trotters’ names before the deadline, affording them additional time to decide on their favourites. Mohawk Million will be hosted on the same day as the Metro Park, giving fans a double dose of entertainment simultaneously.
Jim Lawson, the horseracing regulator’s CEO, expressed his gratitude to all the owners who purchased the slots amidst the trying times the industry finds itself in. Woodbine Entertainment released its standardbred season nominations in February, with plenty of prizes up for grabs. Expectedly, the Mohawk Million and the Pepsi North America Cup have generated the most interest, even though there will be ample other events at the racetracks.
