Woodbine Entertainment has issued an update regarding the annual Queen’s Plate event, scheduled for August 2022.
Last week, Woodbine Entertainment released a statement stating that the next prestigious Queen’s Plate event would be held on 21 August 2022. The race, which is the highlight of the Canadian Triple Crown thoroughbred season, is set to feature a CA$1 million grand prize.
The Queen’s Plate is considered one of the most esteemed horseracing events in North America. The competition determines Canada’s top-performing three-year-old thoroughbred and is the longest-run stakes sprint in the country. Once again, the event will be hosted by Woodbine Entertainment’s racetrack in Etobicoke.

After a successful edition this year, the prestigious competition is expected to be held again in August 2022. Woodbine Entertainment CEO, Jim Lawson, noted that the horseracing provider is thrilled about the prospect of hosting another Queen’s Plate during next year’s racing season.
According to Lawson, the announced date garnered a positive response amongst the fans, which was seen this year with the massive wagering volumes. Lawson explained that organising the event has electrified the track, and the company is now more determined than ever to host another memorable race next summer.
Woodbine entertainment also advised that the 163rd Queen’s Plate tickets will be available for purchase over the coming months. Additionally, the company plans to host a 133-day thoroughbred meet next season. Currently, the 2022 season has a tentative commencement date of 16 April and should conclude on 11 December 2022.
The horseracing leader also revealed that the event dates for the upcoming season are currently under review by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario. Once the final go-ahead is granted, Woodbine will reveal the schedules for the new season. More information can be found on the company’s official website.
