Woodbine Mohawk Park is set to host the long-awaited Pepsi North America Cup after shelving concerns that the event might not go ahead.

Horseracing fans are in for a treat this weekend, with the 38th edition of the renowned Pepsi North America Cup making its way to the Woodbine Mohawk Park.  On Monday, Woodbine Entertainment conducted the draws for the top ten positions for Saturday’s gala event.

The race will feature ten three-year-old pacers, with the owners eyeing the CA$1 million winning prize.  Perfect Sting and Bulldog Hannover managed to fix their post-positions due to their victories in the elimination stages.  The cup is scheduled as race 11 on Saturday and will commence at 10h42 pm ET.

Jampacked Weekend Ahead

Perfect Sting’s team selected post three for the pacer, while Bulldog Hanover got post four.  Bulldog Hanover, trained by Jack Darling, won six of its eight starts this season and ten out of 14 during his entire career.  The horse is the offspring of Shadow Play and is competing to secure its second Cup title.

Conversely, Perfect Sting was last year’s unquestionable Dan Patch Award winner, while this season he has four out of nine starts, never finishing below third place. The horse is the brood of Always B Miki and will attempt to provide its trainer, Joe Holloway, with a second Cup and its rider, David Miller, with a third.

An open draw determined the other eight positions. At post one is Jimmy Connor B for Gregg and Doug McNair, who also have Bettor Sun at post two. At number five is Whichwaytothebeach for Sylvain Filion and Brett Pelling. Desperate Man is at number six, Simon Says goes to seven, while the eighth, ninth, and tenth positions have been allocated to Abuckabett Hanover, Rockyroad Hanover, and Southwind Gendry.

Woodbine Entertainment announced that final rider changes, with morning-line odds set by 9h30 on Wednesday morning. The Pepsi North America Cup will feature as race 11 during Saturday’s CA$3 million card. Tickets are available at CA$10 and can be purchased all week during live racing hours at entry points. Additionally, the race will be broadcasted on TSN4.
