Alberta Launches First Regulated Online Sportsbook
September saw the launch of the province of Alberta’s first regulated online sports betting programme.
There has been ground-breaking news coming out of Alberta’s gaming industry, with the Alberta Gaming, Liquor, and Cannabis Commission (AGLC) launching its first fully regulated sports betting platform in the province. The launch was made possible due to the Commissions collaboration with NeoPollard Interactive and Sporting Solutions.
Local gamblers and sports betting fans now have access to offerings on the province’s sole regulated web portal, PlayAlberta.ca. After signing up for an account, the user can place wagers on various fan-favourite sports such as the NHL, NBA, MLB, NFL, NCAA football, and even soccer.

Acting President and Chief Executive Officer of the Alberta Gaming, Liquor, and Cannabis Commission, Kandice Machado, stated that the commission intends to find new ways of improving its online platform. According to her, the addition of sports wagering will offer players an even greater variety. Machado explained that the latest sports betting service is provided in a safe and regulated gaming environment.
Alberta’s newest sports betting offering is made available through NeoPollard Interactive’s state-of-the-art NeoSphere iLottery Technology and the Advanced Betting Platform from Sporting Solutions. The latter is a prominent business-to-business sports wagering service provider that currently collaborates with gaming operators globally.
Liz Siver, General Manager at NeoPollard Interactive, noted that the company continues to expand and better its products to provide the best possible lottery, casino, and sports betting options for Albertans. As the principal online partner of AGLC, the company provides a comprehensive set of solutions, including cutting-edge technology, as well as its Power Suite of content and operational services.
CEO of Sporting Solutions, Andy Wright, stated that his company is pleased to partner with AGLC and NeoPollard Interactive to launch the first-ever regulated digital sportsbook in the province. Wright added that the introduction of the service comes at an opportune time since Canada has just legalised betting on single-game sporting events.
