It was a thrilling weekend at Ontario’s Woodbine Mohawk Park, with the laurels going to Venerable and his driver, David Miller.
Woodbine Mohawk Park saw a jampacked weekend of action, with fans flocking to watch this year’s Mohawk Million race. The 4-5 favourite, Venerable, hit the ground running and came on top, bringing home the title for driver David Miller.
Venerable, the daughter horse of Walner, has remained unbeatable in eight career starts, growing her seasonal wins to a seven-digit figure. The event, which took place at Woodbine Entertainment’s Campbellville track, featured ten fillies, with big names such as Selfie Queen and King of the North vying for gold.
Eventful Day at the Tracks
The Saturday race saw Venerable emerge victorious with a winning time of 1:54 2/5. The filly commenced from post nine, with her trainer deciding not to push her from the beginning but instead wait for a perfect opening and take full advantage of it. The horse is owned by David McDuffie, Melvin Hartman, Steven Arnold, and Paul Bordogna, all of whom cashed out CA$210,000 at last year’s Lexington Selected for the filly.
Duly Resolved came in second place, with this being his ninth first or second finish in nine career starts for trainer John Bax. Valentina Blu, ridden by Andrew McCarthy, managed to snatch third place. The Mighty Hill, with driver James MacDonald, claimed fourth place, with the crowd’s favourite, King of the North, coming in fifth.
National Caretaker Appreciation Day
On 23 September, Woodbine Entertainment participated in the National Caretaker Appreciation Day. The occasion celebrates the industry’s behind-the-scenes heroes that take care of and offer support to all the equine athletes. The company also recognised Emma Christoforou and Joanne Colville for their effort in hosting the festivities at Woodbine Mohawk Park last Thursday.
Woodbine Entertainment also announced a list of groups and individuals in line to be awarded gifts, sponsorships, and other contributions for the National Caretaker Appreciation Day. Furthermore, all the awarded caretakers received a special gift from Jimmy Freight and Adriano Sorella. The entire list of winners can be found on Woodbine Entertainment’s official website.
