The British Columbia Lottery Corporation is hosting the Love Local BC online fundraiser to mark the upcoming Festive Season.

As always, the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) will, once again, be proactively contributing to the festive cheer.  On 29 November, BCLC announced that it would host an online fundraiser called Love Local BC, contributing to Food Banks BC and other local organisations.

The start of the fundraiser comes at a critical time, with many local communities still recovering from the recent flooding across the province. According to the BCLC, the online charity drive will run from 29 November to 10 December.  The value of the products purchased via the Love Local BC website will go towards one of the 11 food bank groups.

Giving Back to the Community

Chief Social Purpose Officer and Vice President of Player Experience at BCLC, Peter ter Weeme, said that the fundraiser would allow the company to give back to the community. He noted that BCLC is proud to be helping local communities, non-profit organisations, and businesses through its online fundraiser.

To raise funds, the BCLC has acquired several gift cards and items from local businesses, which it’s now offering on its Love Local BC page. Once an item is purchased or is successfully bid on via a silent auction, the funds are sent directly to a food bank.

Dan Huang-Taylor, Executive Director of Food Banks British Columbia, explained that the organisation supports 102 food banks in the province, supplying them with food, funds, and other services to help them meet the needs of the most vulnerable residents. Huang-Taylor also noted that such fundraisers from the BCLC are instrumental for the organisation to support its programme.

The BCLC also informed everyone who had purchased a gift card or had bid on a silent auction item that they stand a chance to win a grand prize of an experience at Parq Vancouver worth CA$5,500. The award features a one-night stay in a deluxe suite at the Parq. The BCLC has also partnered with six casinos to host onsite food drives from 29 November to 10 December.
